Lobby Display:
For our lobby display, we wanted to make it a sensory experience. We decided the most important symbol of the show was the scarlet letter itself, so we created a life-sized 'embroidered' Scarlet Letter on unbleached muslin, which is a fabric used during that time and in the production. This symbol needed to be as large and intimidating as possible to reflect the affect it had on puritans. We then focused in on the symbolism of the fabric itself and spoke on 'The American Tapestry' and how The Scarlet Letter is the all-American story. We also included posters going over what religious practices were like in Puritan America and Nathanial Hawthorn's Biography.
Both James and I were awarded the 2022 Oscar Brockett Excellence in Dramaturgy for our dramaturgical work on Scarlet Letter Opera
